What Do Birth Doulas Do?

DO

  • Provide educational, emotion, physical support

  • Encourage comfort measures: breathing, relaxation, movement, positioning

  • Offers information/clarification during labor and birth

  • Continuously comforts the birther

  • Encourages the birther to become informed about various birth decisions

  • Encourages the birther to communicate their needs and desires to their provider

  • Assists partner in supporting the birther


DON'T

  • Perform medical/clinical tasks

  • Give medical advice or diagnose conditions

  • Take over the role of partner

  • Deliver the baby
